Potential projects[]
The following are projects that members of production have publicly considered developing in the future but have not been confirmed for future release.
- Balisarius origin series: On July 3, 2023, Zack Snyder revealed through Empire that a series had been planned to feature the backstory of Fra Fee's Balisarius.[2] Fra Fee (Balisarius) later noted that the series hadn't yet been greenlit as of June 2024, but he hoped Netflix would have the interest to make it happen.[3]
- Unknown TV series: Mags Visaggio, author of Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe, confirmed that she had written a TV pilot alongside the comic when she first revealed that she was working on the comic. Though she didn't mention Rebel Moon by name at the time, she later confirmed that her work on the franchise began in March of 2023, just one month before mentioning the comic that would later be revealed to be House of the Bloodaxe, and the pilot.[4]
- Mainline sequels: In an interview in SFX magazine's holiday 2023 issue, Zack Snyder indicated that a trilogy of sequel movies was planned for after The Scargiver. He added that an ending for the franchise was also planned but would take place at some point after all currently planned media.[5] Kurt Johnstad later stated that a six-movie arc was planned. Similar to the first movies, the remaining four would be two stories, each split into two movies. The result would be a trilogy of movie pairs. He didn't know at the time if these movies would ever come to be, nor if the number of movies would change.[6]
- Console video game: At the Los Angeles premiere for A Child of Fire, Zack Snyder noted to Variety that he hoped to make a console game set in the Rebel Moon universe.[7]
- Titus spinoff: Djimon Hounsou and Staz Nair expressed interest in a spinoff focused on General Titus's past, specifically his trauma from his crimes and struggles with alcoholism.[8]
Other notes[]
Below are some contextual notes about the projects listed above to clarify some potential points of confusion.
- RPG: Zack Snyder confirmed on The Nerd Queens podcast that he was developing a massive-scale role-playing game. RPGs come in multiple varieties, including video games, tabletop games, and even live-action role-playing. Both a game and a tabletop RPG were later revealed, but it was never confirmed if either of these were what Snyder was referring to on the podcast.
- Animated short: Also on The Nerd Queens podcast, Snyder revealed an animated short to be in production. Entertainment Weekly later provided details of an animated short about the Kali, which is likely the short in question.
- Series: Rebel Moon series have been mentioned in three different ways, resulting in one, two, or three potential series that have been planned. One is an origin story for Balisarius. Since Fra Fee, who portrays Balisarius, was aged-up for the modern-day scenes in Rebel Moon, it's likely that the series would take place when Balisarius was Fee's age and that it would be live-action, explaining why the younger actor was cast for an older character. This isn't necessarily true, however. The series could be the animated series later confirmed by Snyder in Total Film. Mags Visaggio also confirmed her involvement in the penning of a series pilot, which could have been the Balisarius backstory, the animated series, both, or something else entirely.
- Comic book/graphic novel: While Snyder initially confirmed the production of a graphic novel on The Nerd Queens, a comic miniseries was later announced. It was unknown if the different terminology was meant to represent the same comic or if these were two separate projects at the time, but Snyder later confirmed that they were one and the same. Later, Snyder confirmed through Total Film that an animated comic was also in production. Whether this is an animated version of the previously announced comic or an enitrely new piece of media is still unknown.
